A Report On Translation Of The Art Of Translation (Introduction And Chapter 1)

The translation text is The Art of Translation by the Czech literary theorist,historian and translation theorist Jiri levy.There is no Chinese version and the translator together with two classmates sets up a translation group to deal with several chapters in the book.The translator is responsible for the content of introduction and the first chapter and the actual translation amount is about 10000 words.In the part of introduction and the first chapter,having drawn on adjacent disciplines,the methodology of Czech functional sociosemiotics structuralism and the most advanced methods in the West,the author synthesized his findings and experience in the field of translation which combines the approaches of theoreticians,systemic analysts,historians,critics,teachers,practitioners and celebrities.The profile of the theory system was briefly reviewed in this chapter.With the linguistic methodology and literature methodology,it has made a theoretical guidance to the translation activities.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the original text including significance,influence,its author and the type.In the second chapter,the task process is described in terms of pre-translation work,translation process and post-translation work.In the third chapter,Peter Newmark's translation strategy is elaborated.In the fourth chapter,the translated text is analyzed with cases at lexical level,syntactic level,textual level and cultural level and with many translation techniques such as choice of word meaning,shifting,amplification,inversion,division,combination and recombination.In the last chapter,the findings from translation are summarized including the knowledge that the translator has gained and shortcomings.
