This thesis aims to analyze the cultural differences reflected in two inaugural addresses,through which the author can examine to what extent Chinese and American cultures differ from each other.This study is done from a cross-cultural perspective.The author has chosen two addresses for this study.One is made by President Xi Jinping on November 15th,2012 and the other is made by American President Donald Trump on January 20th,2017.Based on three of Hofstede's five cultural dimensions,that is,power distance,individualism and collectivism,masculinity and femininity,this thesis makes a qualitative analysis of relevant contents in these two addresses.It also explains the underlying reasons of cultural differences between China and America in two aspects,namely,the concept of hierarchy and cultural values,with reference to both domestic and overseas researches.This study will help to improve the cross-cultural awareness of both Chinese and American people to certain extent.Meanwhile,it develops a new perspective for further studies in this subject. |
