Based on Fairclough's three-dimensional theoretical framework, this study combines the intertextuality theory and critical discourse analysis to construct a new model to compare and analyze 100 pieces of news reports about the two sessions between China Daily and The New York Times.By contrasting the differences and similarities of the intertextuality, this paper makes a critical discourse analysis on linguistic features, generation mechanisms and social contexts in the news reports of the two sessions. This paper aims to explore the different ideologies embedded in those intertextual texts through the comparison between China Daily and The New York Times from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. All of the corpus data are selected from March 1 to March 15 during 2013 to 2017 from those two newspapers' official websites. The methods adopted in this research are quantitative method and qualitative method. The quantitative method is employed to analyze the distribution and frequencies of linguistic features and generation mechanisms, and the qualitative method is applied to discuss how the ideologies embedded in discourses are influenced by different social contexts. The research results show that there exist differences and similarities among the linguistic features, generation mechanisms and social contexts by comparing and analyzing the different news reports about the two sessions between China Daily and The New York Times, which reveals their different ideologies. The New York Times inevitably seeks its own interests to protect its hegemonic position by weakening and vilifying the image of China;while China Daily describes a friendly and responsible Chinese image to the whole world and enhances people's confidence. In this contribution, theoretically,it is effective and feasible to combine Fairclough's intertextuality model with critical discourse analysis, which not only expands the application scope of critical discourse analysis, but also enriches the empirical study of intertextuality theory.Practically,it helps readers to improve their language awareness and develops the reader's critical reading ability.
