Effects Of Subliminal Interference On Associative False Memory

In our daily life,people often appear some embarrassing memory phenomenon: there will be no experienced of experience as an experienced,or information extraction and original code there are significant change and made no unaware.Roediger and McDermott(1995)referred to this memory error as False memory.From activation theory level,false memory can be triggered automatically by related project processing,has the characteristics of implicit processing,although the individual does not recognize the false memory of information,but the false memory information processing also show the characteristic of the new features,has the characteristics of subliminal processing.The study found that cognitive activities such as insight(Hu,Z,2017),implicit memory(Mckone & Murphy 2000),stereotype(LentonBlair & Hastie,2001)and other implicit processing processes have a priming effect on false memory.And subliminal perception processing has the characteristics of implicit automatic processing(Ma,L.,Zhang,J.,2011).So,whether subliminal perception will affect false memory?DRM experimental paradigm is the classical paradigm of false memories.It emphasizes correlation activation effect on false memories,so the DRM paradigm to induce false memories,also known as the associative false memory.The DRM paradigm is based on the study of word list.The Chinese character is an amalgam of figural righteousness,and the influence of Phonological Orthographic and Semantic association on false memories cannot be ignored.The unconscious activation of critical lures has always been the focus of controversy.Sadler and Sodmont(2018)pointed out that the subliminal priming paradigm provides a way for the unconscious processing of the critical lures to prove the false memory of relevance.This study referred to the Jacoby – Whitehouse paradigm,combines the classic DRM paradigm with the subliminal perceptual priming paradigm.Use phonological,orthographic and Semantic association DRM word list,through three parts of experiments to described the false memory effect elicited by subliminal interference.The study of the three experiments was consistent,and the single-factor within subject design.The independent variable was subliminal interference,which was divided into three levels: subliminal association group,subliminal unassociation group and control group.Each experiment set up a/b two experiments to investigate the difference of false memory processing under the subliminal interference on encoding phase and retrieval phase.By putting a subliminal interference stimulation with the table memorization or recognition projects matching,to evaluate subliminal interference effects on false recognition.At the same time,the subliminal interference coding phase also requires the subjects to recognize the subliminal interference stimuli in order to solve the problem of false memory induced by unconscious subliminal stimulus.In the experiment 1,a self-invented DRM phonological association characteristics list was used to investigate the effect of phonological subliminal interference on false memory.In experiment 2,a self-invented DRM orthographic association characteristics list was used to investigate the effect of phonological subliminal interference on false memory.In experiment 3,a revised DRM semantic association word list was used to investigate the effect of semantic subliminal interference on false memory.Based on the results of three experiments,get the conclusions as follows:(1)Subliminal phonological,orthographic,semantic interference can affect the associative false memory,and the general characteristics is: subliminal association aggravation,subliminal unassociation inhibition.(2)Phonological association,orthographic association and semantic association all can induce obvious false memories.But there are differences in the activation level of three association.There is an activation level upper limit and lower limit in the activation.Higher than the activation upper limit can not be aggravated,lower than the activation of the lower limit can not be suppressed.Phonological,orthographic and semantic activation the upper limit and lower limit value of the three increase in sequence.(3)Subliminal interference encoding phase and retrieval phase both affect the activation of the associative false memory,and influenced by subliminal association type.(4)The unconscious subliminal interference stimulation is sufficient to induce false memory,showing the phenomenon of "invasion".
