The research objects of this paper are the movies that directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien and Lee Chang-dong.The purpose is to inquire into the advantage of Cross-cultural study and look forward to the future of comparative filmology,through the research of their movies with the research technique of comparative filmology.The study consist of Lee Chang-dong's creation of films influenced by Hou Hsiao-hsien----influence study;the similarities and differences of the subject matters,images,and themes of the films that directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien and Lee Chang-dong----parallel study;the interdisciplinary research of Hsiao-hsien and Lee Chang-dong's movies between History,Psychology,and Religion----cross-culture study.This paper is divided into six chapters:Chapter one is the introduction part,which include the significance,objective,primary coverage,innovation point,object,and technique of the research of this paper.Chapter two is the basic theory part,in this part,which generalizes about the developing process and present situation of comparative literature,discuss about the usability of the comparative literature's theories to the comparative filmology,and gave an outline of the comparative filmology.In the following chapter three,the part of influence study,introduce the growth and film creation experiences of Hou Hsiao-hsien and Lee Chang-dong.Also explain that Hou Hsiao-hsien had a influence on Lee Chang-dong's film creation experience.Chapter four is the part of parallel study.It contains the similarities and differences of the same subject matter(reactionary gang),the image(marginal man),and the theme(political movement)that the two directors dealt with.In chapter five it is the part of cross-culture study.Which is comprised of home values with the background of Confucian culture(History),reasons of the absence of father in the films(Psychology),religious factors in their movies(Religious).The last chapter is the conclusion of the paper.
