The role of culture is increasingly valued in the field of economics research. However, academic circles still need to explore the way the abstract concept of culture affects economic growth. Some scholars have introduced the concept of cultural capital in the field of sociology into the study of economics, trying to make a reasonable explanation of the internal mechanism in culture and economy. We start with a specific culture in a specific region and specifically study the regional influence of cultural capital on economic growth.Due to the abstractness and comprehensiveness of the concept of culture, people have different understandings of the connotation of cultural capital. In this paper,we first define the concept of cultural capital on the basis of literature review, and then analyze the two paths of conversion of cultural resources into cultural capital. In addition, this paper introduces the historical background of salt culture in Zigong city and analyzes the current status of the capitalization of salt cultural resources. We summarize the classification of the well salt cultural heritage in Zigong and explain the status quo of the development of the salt culture industry.Based on existing research results,we consolidate the cultural capital indicators summarized by predecessors, and establish a salt culture capital index system based on the paths of capitalization of local-specific cultural resources. We use the entropy method to determine the weight of each indicator, which is in turn used to obtain the salt culture capital score associated with salt in Zigong City. Finally,we use the cointegrationtheory to perform regression analysis on the level of salt cultural capital scores and the GDP of Zigong City.We believe that cultural capital is not an achievement of human civilization with ordinary cultural significance.Instead, cultural capital is a quantifiable accumulation of cultural wealth that requires to be invested and produced.Cultural capital is formed by the capitalization of cultural resources. The capitalization of cultural resources is a process of developing and using cultural resources. In this process, and under the forces of the market, goods or services circulate and add value or meet the spiritual and cultural needs of society. The paths to the capitalization of cultural resources are the inheritance of resources and the industrialization of resources.First of all,for the inheritance of cultural resources,it is necessary to protect and integrate resources, and secondly,it is important to promote resource innovation.Industrialization of cultural resources is the injection of cultural resources into related industries(especially cultural industries)through market operations to produce cultural goods, form cultural capital, and bring additional values. The industrialization of cultural resources is accompanied by the formation and development of regional cultural industries and other region-specific industries. There is a mutualism between special cultural industry clusters and regional economic growth.Clusters of distinctive industries can promote sustainable economic development.A field survey of Zigong City shows that the salt chemical industry is an important and unique pillar industry of the area.Further empirical analysis suggests that there is a long-term synergy, cointegration and dynamic equilibrium between the level of salt culture capital and the level of GDP in Zigong City.Additionally, the level of cultural capital is the Granger cause of GDP,whereas GDP is not the Granger cause of the level of salt culture capital.
