As the title of this article mentioned, the study was focused on Brice Marden,an American minimalist. He was described by the critic Peter Schjedahl as the “most influential abstract painter of the last 40 years".In this paper,I attempts to explore the generation of his paintings and the conversion of his painting language.Brice Marden,an artist who has been active in the art world since the 1960 s,insisted on painting against "painting is dead" the main stream of viewpoint of the post-modernism.Brice Marden's paintings inherit the painting language of the New York School, and he also converted eastern cultural elements into his works.Brice Marden has his own unique style of painting works with abstract expressionist paintings form combines the thread of calligraphy and calligraphic style, minimalist aesthetic interest, western classical color system as well as individual unique materials using. It's not quite right to define his style as a single abstract expressionism or minimalism. It can be said that his arts is another expression of abstract painting. In some way, this kind of expression is also the result of the globalization of eastern culture and western culture. In this paper,I start from the following things to make a pattern of Brice Marden's arts and analyze its causes. The first is the production of Brice Marden's painting language. In the background of his student days, with the help of early history of art works and the creation of early paintings, his personal painting language was gradually formed. Then I analyzed the two most influential schools in his works, namely American abstract expressionism and minimalism, which played a role in the formation of his painting style. And here is the focus of this paper: Brice Marden's painting language analysis. This paper divides Brice Marden's painting language into two styles. One style is the early color domain painting style.Brice Marden's colorfield painting is characterized by flatness, which is the basic creation method of Brice Marden. At the same time,he also studied and explored the material of the picture. After that,Brice Marden came into contact with Oriental culture, and he traced his calligraphy from Japan to Chinese calligraphy. This whole thing led to a major turning point in Brice Marden's creation, which led to the second style of his painting which is more personal. In this paper, cloth,Brice Marden, contact form in line after netting in the form of Oriental culture works to comb his Oriental element of painting language form after transformation applied to the process itself is created. In this section, the analysis of Brice Marden's painting works out the key words of Brice Marden's painting language: lines and colors. The third part of this paper is to summarize the uniqueness of Brice Marden's painting language.Through the first two chapters of his painting language the uniqueness is derived from he's vision to deconstruct the Oriental traditional culture element, took their cue from western classical works to modernism in the understanding of color, and the first generation of reality and the social part of the New York school painting pulled off access to the New York school ontology painting language of painting. The integration of these three aspects forms the uniqueness of Brice Marden's painting language. The last part of this paper is to give an opinion on the whole study of Brice Marden's paintings through the previous chapters.Throughout view in this paper, the order is followed by the production of Brice Marden's painting language,Brice Marden's work analysis, the cause of the source of his arts, then summarizes all of this and give my opinion on it.Hope the overall research Brice Marden's paintings can help others and myself on the way of creation, thinking of transformation, the use of materials, work output and so on.
