American Abstract Expressionism Painting Language In The 20th Century Study On Color Symbol

Abstract Expressionism,as the first art movement that emerged from the United States after the war,is worthy of discussion in its historical position and significance in the history of world art.After World War II,the world economic,political and cultural system needs to be reconstructed urgently,while the United States stands up at the front of the times and starts to set off a new wave of artistic thoughts,which is undoubtedly related to the victory of the United States in World War II and the arrival of European artists in order to escape the troubles of the war.The arrival of European artists,especially surrealist painters Bredon,Legge and mondriaan,has provided American artists with cultural and artistic ideological direction and resources,and brought new creation of abstract art.The influx of these avant-garde ideas is regarded as a prerequisite for the rise of abstract expressionism in America.Therefore,under the collision,agitation and integration of two different civilizations and artistic ideas,a new artistic idea-abstract expressionism was born in new york.Abstract expressionist painters are no longer limited to the pursuit of light and shadow,volume and space in traditional painting,but develops the automatic painting method to the fullest.They advocate to express their inner impulses with arbitrary "spontaneous actions"(such as dripping,flowing,throwing,etc.),so they also call abstract expressionism "action painting".As we all know,color is worth studying in the representative works of abstract expressionist painters,The color symbol represented by each color used by each artist is the focus of this paper.After a brief description of the rise and development of abstract expressionism,this paper begins to reconstruct the color symbols in the representative works of abstract expressionism painters and the color emotions conveyed behind them,which is also the main line of this paper.On this basis,pay attention to the analysis of the works of American abstract expressionism,grasp the painting characteristics,and discuss the color symbols in abstract Expressionism painting language from the aspects of color aesthetics and painting expression,so as to further explore the art movement of abstract expressionism.In the first chapter,the political and historical background of abstract expressionism is briefly summarized,and the color symbols are defined.Chapter two and chapter three are the key points of this paper.In these two chapters,important representative artists and representative works are selected to deeply analyze the color symbols used in their paintings.The fourth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the whole thesis and demonstrates the arguments of this paper.Abstract Expressionism,as the first art movement that emerged from the United States after the war,established the important position of the United States in the history of art development in the West and even the whole world in the future,and played a vital role in the development of abstract art and various schools of art after the 20 th century.Therefore,this paper will start from expounding abstract expressionism,integrate historical data about abstract expressionism,define color symbols,and then study the color symbols in abstract Expressionism painting language with the representative works of abstract expressionist artists.
