Having been through multiple stages,Chinese American literature saw border-crossing changes in theme and subject matter since the late 20 th century. The “X Generation” of Chinese American writers who released their works in the 1990 s and were born around 1960 s is no longer zealous in seeking after the “roots”,but gradually convey the desalination of ethnicity and the fluidity of culture identity.Gish Jen and Celeste Ng.are famous contemporary Chinese American writers. After the publications of Gish Jen's Typical American,Mona in the Promised Land, critics are drawn to the multiculturalism and cultural identity construction within them.Because of these two works,Gish Jen is considered to be the predecessor in literature after Maxine Hong Kingston and Amy Tan.Known to the public in recent years,Celeste Ng.is famous for her novel Everything I Never Told You,which makes her a promising new writer in contemporary Chinese American literature.Coming to the 21 th century,The Love Wife of Gish Jen and Everything I Never Told You of Celeste Ng.artfully meet the trend of Multiculturalism by depicting the story of interracial families formed by Chinese male immigrants and white women.Interracial family is the natural result of the development of multiculturalism in American society, and through interracial family, the two writers express their new thinking towards identity, ethnicity and multiculturalism. In the two works,Gish Jen and Celeste Ng.not only indicate the fluidity of cultural identity but also propose the optionality of transracial family.Through comparative reading of The Love Wife and Everything I Never Told You,this paper tries to figure out the two authors' new thinking about identity and family by analyzing the formation of interracial families, the fluidity of male protagonists, the female awakening of women protagonists, and the conflicts within the family. The conflicts and final harmony of the two interracial families reflect the possible harmonious integration of multi-races in the multicultural society.
