A Report On Liaison Interpreting Of Sino-Austria Nanotechnology And New Material Workshop And Matchmaking

This report is based on an interpreting task done by the author on 11~thh September,2017.In the Sino-Austria Nanotechnology and New Material Workshop and Matchmaking,the interpreter provided interpreting service for the representatives of business companies and research institutions from China and Austria.This report is studied with the use of Relevance Theory through analyzing some examples of the interpreting task.The Relevance Theory about communication and cognition put forward by Sperber and Wilson in the last century explains powerfully interpreting activities.In this report,the author investigates the interpreting strategy adoption of when the interpreter shared similar or significantly different cognitive context with the speakers.What kinds of relevance the interpreter tried to realize—optimal relevance or maximal relevance is studied elaborately.In the main part,the report shows the theoretical basis of the interpreting,i.e.theories about optimal relevance,maximal relevance and interpreting strategy.Analytical framework of the case analysis is introduced in the following part.In case analysis part,the author analyzes the interpreter's cognitive context,strategy adoption,the reason behind the adoption,and the contextual effect realized.At the end of the report,major findings and implications generated from the case analysis are displayed to the readers.The author also concludes some limitations and suggestions of the report writing.
