Research Of Elegies In The Tang Dynasty

The elegy is a literary form which makes people think about death and mourn the dead.It has many independent branches and among which elegy is an unique one.The development of elegy is quite special,it was born from literature,but kept grown up in the forms of practicability and utilitarianism.Tang dynasty is the mature period of elegy,gone through the accumulation of literary form in the Han and Wei and Six dynasties,the development of elegy in Tang has become mature.This paper mainly focus on the study of elegy in the Tang Dynasty.The part of introduction summarizes the definition of elegy,gives presentation of the newly research of it.At the same time,the paper also puts forward some issues exist in some relevant researches,and introduces thoughts and methods.The body of this paper is divided into four chapters:The first chapter analyzes the evolution of elegies before Tang Dynasty.Firstly,identify it can be traced from Han Dynasty and then analyzes its rudiment.Secondly,teases its state of development in the Period of Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties,confirm the characters the literary form has in these periods,and lay firm foundation for the researches of elegy in Tang Dynasty.The second chapter analyzes the literary form of elegy in Tang Dynasty.First,summarizes its objects,authors,forms and contents,ensure its standards of writing.Second,studies the artistic characteristics of elegy in this time,analyzes the means of expression to eulogize the dead and express sorrow,summarize its language feature.Thirdly,compares Tang`s elegy to the prayer,lament,funeral oration and elegiac address that contemporaneous,tells their similarities and differences,dissects their features of literary form adequately.The third chapter analyzes its culture.On the one hand,tidies the funeral culture that concern the Tang`s elegy,on the other hand,analyzes the political factors it has to explicit the cultural function of the elegy in Tang Dynasty.The forth chapter summarizes its influence from two aspects.First,carding its literary form influence to prayer,words on stone,and elegy in Song Dynasty.Second,analyzes influences the Tang`s elegy has to the culture of Song Dynasty.By these means,we hope to get a clear understanding about the feature and position that the elegy has in literary form and culture.
