Since the reform and opening,along with the economic development,China’s social structure has also undergone tremendous changes.National values,social stability,spiritua l beliefs and so on have all been affected to varying degrees in the economic tide.Man y people’s value systems have begun to get confused and lost.China’s current official data shows that there are more than 100 million religious believers in China.Contrary to Americans’ willingness to openly admit their religion,many religious believers in Chin a are unwilling to disclose their religious beliefs and have not been registered for variou s reasons.Shijun Tong estimated that there are 300 million believers in China after field visits.Guangzhou,a frontier city in China’s reform and opening period,is adjacent to Ho ng Kong and Macau.There are a large number of migrants and foreigners living in Gua ngzhou.The openness,economic development,and cultural diversity of Guangzhou is typ ical in China.Living in this environment,people are affected by the "subculture" of the reform and opening up,and the ratio of believers shows a relatively high proportion.With the development of the Internet,especially the new social media such as Weib o and Wechat have become more and more important in people’s life,the channels for religious organations have become more diversified.In addition,some overseas organizatio ns and religious forces penetrated through forms of clergy visits,academic exchanges,tra ining courses,distribution of film and television works,and books and periodicals.They also penetrated through networks and broadcasts to achieve the purpose of splitting the motherland and subverting the regime.,the Pearl River Delta region is especially serious.Based on the theoretical framework of "media empowerment",this study review the literature of religious studies and media empowerment theories.Through the investigation of the new media usage behavior,cognitive behavior and participation behavior of religi ous believers in Guangzhou,we measured the media empowerment of religious believers under the new media environment.In terms of information dissemination methods: opinion leaders and organizational communication play a role,whether it is traditional religious literature,church publications,or religious APPs.The interviewed religious believers attac h great importance to “authority” and selective contact authentication when they choose information acquisition methods.Content of religious organizations or communities.Through the field investigation of "empowerment",we can measure the levels of me dia use,religious cognition and religious participation of religious believers in Guangzho u,the study found three findings.In terms of media use,the phenomenon of new media empowerment has been highlighted,new media and old media are competing with each other.Traditional channels such as books,religious publications and religious activities ar e still the main channels for respondents to obtain religious information.However,it is w orth noting that new media such as Weibo,Religious App,and WeChat etc have become more and more important to respondents.Expecially,Religious WeChat has became the s econd religious infoemation channel among respondents.In terms of information dissemin ation methods: opinion leaders like religious literature,church publications and religious APPsplay a role.The interviewed religious believers attach great importance to“authority”and selective contact authentication when they choose information.In terms of the effect of empowerment,the two public opinion fields are torn,empowerment and disempower mentexist at the same time.Respondents frequently read religious information,and like s ocial activities such as “like” and “repost”,but there are fewer acts to create origina l religious information.On the one hand,they are dissatisfied with the negative comments on the Internet,and on the other hand they are afraid of rejecting the current public op inion.The phenonmenon “the helplessness of communication” appears.Combined with the research theories and methods of anthropology and sociology,thi s paper tries to find out how the religious belief masses from passive empowerment of others to self-initiative Empowerment,enhance self-efficacy,enhance their own understand ing,integration of resources,social practice process.After the "19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China" put forward the "religion in China",this study may pro vide reference for related departments to implement religious management.
