The Narrative Research On Sutra Stories In Shen Congwen's Collected Works Of?Yue Xia Xiao Jing?

In the 1930 s,Shen Congwen wrote a collection of works named?Yue Xia Xiao Jing?.It imitates the frame construction that called frame-story of the Decameron.Except the first work named “Yue Xia Xiao Jing” adapted from the story called “Huang Luo Zhai”,the rest of woks are rewrote from sutra stories redacted by a series of sutras named?Fa Yuan Zhu Lin?.Shen Congwen studied the narrative skills from foreign early short stories and ancient sutra stories.By his hard working,these ancient sutra stories are rewrote into new fictions.These fictions have novel narrative characteristics,such as transgression of the narrated text,differentiation of text language.It also involves the discussion about the distinction between traditional story and modern fiction,for example the rethinking of historical narrative tradition.Therefore it can be deemed an experiment that combine presentations of traditional story and thoughts about modern fiction.Through this research,It helps us know the difference and similarity between story and fiction.There is also the value of reference to contemporary Chinese literature with regard to the balance of narrative skills and text contents.There are three sections in the thesis.The first section is named the Chinese Decameron—the narrative construction of ?Yue Xia Xiao Jing?.There are two parts in the section.Part one: the analysis of the narrative construction of the Decameron.Part two: the analysis of the distinction between the Decameron and?Yue Xia Xiao Jing?.Transgression of the narrated text is a particular narrative phenomenon in the?Yue Xia Xiao Jing?,the phenomenon produces the echo effect of narrative stratum.The second section is named the raw material of the stories—the use of the sutra stories.There are two parts in the section.Part one: the sutra stories,as the narrated text,produce the narrative effect,such as differentiation of text of time and space,signs of characters of the figures.Part one: the sutra stories,as pre-narrated text,produce the narrative effect,for example the change of the relationship of reason and result.The third section is named the tradition of story and the breakthrough of fiction—the irony of?Yue Xia Xiao Jing?.There are two parts in the section.Part one: the analysis of the implied author of?Yue Xia Xiao Jing?and its irony effect that comes out the misplace of the implied author and the narrator of the text.Part two: the rethinking of the tradition of story and the realization of modern fiction.By mocking narrator and attendee in the works,author rethinks the old narrative skills and mode.It is necessary for writing of fictions.
