A Study Of Water Environment And Rural Society In Baiyangdian(1840-1937)

Baiyangdian area has serious and frequent flood disasters.On the one hand,they are subject to the natural and geographical environment of many rivers,rain concentrated and low-lying land.On the other hand,the region's geographical feature is over-changing for human activity that decrease dramatically the capacity of the store and drainage of lakes.At the same time,the problem of river and lake deposition is becoming more serious.Therefore,the flood and deposition reflect the changes in the water environment that it is important to the rural society attached to this land.The area's people have formed various mode of production including planting,boiling salt,weaving reed and fishing shrimp that centering on water.Moreover,foods,vegetables and other daily materials can't be self-sufficient.So they are largely depending on external supply and convenient water transportation conditions that they are conductive to the development of regional trade and the rural social economy in Baiyangdian area.At the same time,there are also some contradiction and disputes in the process of water environment response in the rural areas of Baiyangdian.It includes the contradiction of governing river,lake and alluvial plain of reclaiming.The main reason is poor management and unreasonable utilization of river or lake.To solve these problems,local officials often play a role of leading,organization,supervision.But it also need to work together with local elite that they can assemble fund,organize villagers,offer advice.In addition,it is necessary to actively cooperate with the villagers.
