Aesop's Fables is the crystallization of ancient Greek civilization. It was written by Aesop,an ancient Greek slave who was released in the 6th century BC.The later generations also attributed some popular folk stories to him and finally compiled them into today's Aesop's Fables. The study and translation of this literary classic have already started in the West, with the versions of Latin,English,French and some other languages. In the early 17 th century,Aesop's Fables was introduced to China by the missionaries, which promoted its translation process in our country. At present, the domestic scholars mainly focus their study on a certain version, and rarely pay attention to the whole developing history. This thesis is based on Medio-translatology and attempt to analyze the translation history of Aesop's Fables in China. The connotation of Medio-translatology is in accordance with the characteristics of Aesop's Fables. This theory not only concerns the language conversion between the source and target language, but focuses more on such issues as the loss, distortion, addition or extension of the source information during the conversion. In addition to the translation itself,it also attaches importance to the translators, the readers and the acceptance environment of the work.As a kind of intercultural communication, translation has its unique value and significance.Having been processed by the translator,Aesop's Fables combines the cultural features and makes adjustments to its target readers,so every version in different periods has its own unique characteristics, which should be explored in all directions instead of by the quality of translation.Based on the theory of Medio-translatology,this thesis studies the translation of Aesop's Fables in China, analyzes its translation features, and explores how this work is translated, introduced, disseminated and accepted in China. The introduction mainly sorts out the existing researches on the Aesop's Fables in China, and points out that this thesis is to make a further study and improvement on the basis of the previous researches. This part also introduces the significance, ideas and innovations of this research. The body of this thesis is to study the translation history of Aesop's Fables, which is divided into three periods: late Ming dynasty, early modern times and modern times. It discusses the Chinese versions in each period according to their publishing information, the texts, the translators and the readers, analyzes their social and cultural environment, and searches for the causes of different translation strategies in different periods. The conclusion summarizes the translation features of Aesop's Fables in China. This study finds that its translation in our country has experienced the the stage of beginning, development and maturity. This thesis aims at providing some reference and guidance for the literary translation work in China,by studying the translation history of Aesop's Fables in our country.
