Writing is an important skill in English learning,which is the concrete embodiment of learners' comprehensive competence of using language.It can also reflect teachers' teaching efficiency.However,there are lots of errors,especially lexical errors,in students' English writing because of the students' low level of English writing.Therefore,it is very significant for the teachers to make clear classification of lexical errors,analyze reasons and make some relevant proposals.From the collected researches,their research objects are almost non-English and English major college students or English learners with high level,while few studies have been focused on junior high school students in basic education stage.In regard to the few available studies on junior high school students' lexical errors in English writing,their researches mostly focus on various lexical errors and few researchers make a survey on the specific type of errors.Based on error analysis,comparative analysis theory and language transfer theory,this study attempts to find out lexical errors in the writings of Junior high school students and categorize the lexical errors,explore the causes of the errors,and improve the English vocabulary learning efficiency and writing competence of Junior high school students.With the method of text analysis,documentary analysis,questionnaire and interview,choosing 109 Junior high school students of grade 9 and 34 English teachers from a school in Zhangzhou County,Fujian Province as the research subjects,the study aims to explore the following questions: 1.What are the types of lexical errors in the English compositions of junior high school students? 2.What are the main causes of lexical errors in the English compositions of junior high school students?Through the data analysis,the results indicate that:1.The lexical errors in students' English compositions include formal errors,word choice errors and other errors.Formal errors include spelling errors,the misusage of nouns and verbs.Word choice errors include errors of part of speech and unsuitable word-selection errors.Other errors include Chinglish,misorder of words,linking works and so on.2.The main causes of lexical errors lie in the students' vocabulary learning strategies,the negative transfer of mother tongue and teachers' teaching strategies.Based on the research results,this study puts forward teaching proposals on English vocabulary teaching.
