Writing skills are an indispensable connotative ability in the language competence dimension of English core quality. Thus,English writing is not only a basic skill that a foreign language learner must master, but also an important criterion to test a foreign language learner's comprehensive ability to use language. However,English writing has always been a difficult problem for Chinese students, especially junior high school students with weak foundation in English learning.Students inevitably make errors in the writing process. What kind of errors students make, what kind of attitude toward errors and how to correct errors are topics worthy of in-depth study and discussion. The related studies done at home and abroad concerning English writing errors indicate that error analysis plays a positive role in students' English writing.Based on this perspective, this thesis investigates the errors and countermeasures of junior high school students' English writing. The research questions are as follows: 1.What types of errors could be found in junior high school students' English writing? 2.What are the students' attitudes towards English writing errors in junior high school? 3.What countermeasures should be taken to reduce students' English writing errors in junior high school?Based on the theory of error analysis, this thesis makes a survey, questionnaire and interview on errors in English writing of grade nine students. This study conducts a writing test on 215 students in grade 9 of a junior high school in Jinzhou City.A total of215 samples are collected to investigate the types of errors in students' compositions.Subsequently,128 compositions are randomly selected from 215 students' compositions as the final object of error analysis. In addition, this study distributes 215 questionnaires and205 valid questionnaires are used to understand students' attitudes towards writing errors. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire are good, with values of 0.824 and 0.807 respectively. Finally, interviews are conducted with 4 teachers and 16 classmates to explore countermeasures to reduce student' writing errors. This study use Excel and SPSS19.0statistical software to analyze and study the data related to the above three questions. The results show that: 1.there are four types of errors in junior high school students' English writing: substance errors, lexical errors, grammar errors, and discourse errors and so on.Among them, grammar errors are most prominent in English writing.2.The attitude of junior high school students to English writing errors is generally negative.Students have a certain deviation in their perception of errors. When students often make errors in writing, even if the teacher affirms the meaning and function of the errors instudents' writing, students are very passive and negative in correcting errors.Especially the correction of grammar errors is the most negative.Students tend to be inclined to teachers' correct feedback on their errors.3.In view of students' errors, teachers and students can start from relevant theories, teaching practice, emotional attitude and other aspects, according to the language rules and teaching purposes, students' characteristics and expectations to correct errors.
