In September 2013,a giant jade was located in the four pit of the talcum mine of Xingdong Mining Talc No.1 Mine,Kuandian Manchu Autonomous County,Dando ng,Liaoning Province.The giant jadeite occurs in serpentinized marble of Dashiqiao Formation stratum.The block is about 600 tons,and the quality of the jadeite is delicate and the color is uniform,which is of great research value.Based on the experimental test and field reconnaissance,this paper investigated t he geological situation of Kuandian serpentine jade mining area in Liaoning.Using the experiment methods including polarization microscope,Fourier transform i nfrared spectrometer,electronic probe,X-ray powder diffraction testing techniques,w e conducted the study on mineral composition,chemical composition and spectroscop y characteristics of the serpentine jade in Kuandian of Liaoning.Also,we tested the mi neralogical characteristics,discussed the formation process,and predicted the market prospect of the serpentine jade in Kuandian of Liaoning.Kuandian serpentine jade in Liaoning Province is rich in color,mainly yellow-green,light-green,uniform in color and few impurities,some of which are white,blue-green and dark-green.Relative density:2.552.58,average value 2.57,refractive index 1.56-1.57,Mohr hardness 5-5.5.Under polarizing microscope and scanning electron microscope,the main minera l composition of serpentine jade in Kuandian,Liaoning,is serpentine,the content is o ver 95%,and the secondary minerals are calcite,talcum,mica,and brucite.Quantitative analysis results of electron probe show that,Serpentine Jade from K uandian,Liaoning Province is a magnesium-rich water-bearing silicate mineral.The c hemical composition contains a small amount of Fe,Cr and other elements.The structure mainly consists of micro fibrous crystal structure,flaky crystal stru cture,microscale flaky structure and metasomatic residual structure.The structures ar e mainly massive structures,sheet structures and banded structures.The diffraction lines of the serpentine jade in Kuandian,Liaoning,were measure d by X-ray powder diffraction,and compared with the standard leaf serpentine diffrac tion lines.Both of them basically coincide.It shows that the main mineral compositio n of the serpentine jade in Kuandian of Liaoning is serpentine.Besides the diffraction lines of the serpentine,the diffraction lines of the mica,calcite and talcum are also sho wn.The infrared spectrum test results show that the main mineral of the serpentine ja de in Kuandian,Liaoning,is serpentine,and the serpentine bands are mainly 3675cm-1,3420cm-1,1080cm-1,980cm-1,610cm-1,560cm-1,445cm-1,400cm-1,which are shown in the figure.In this paper,we also compared the serpentine jade from Kuandian with other ser pentine jade.There is little difference in the mineral composition and gemological pro perties of the serpentine jade from Kuandian in Liaoning and the traditional serpentine jade produced in Liaoning Xiuyan,but the quality is much higher than that of the oth er newly discovered serpentine jade,which has been found in this year.The market pr ospect is better.
