Since 1977,English classroom education has officially entered Chinese middle schools,which has aroused the attention of students and their parents.Moreover,the New Curriculum Standard was issued in 2001,which contributed more to the reform of China's educational system ever since.Nowadays,many people have realized that English is an indispensable part of life.Whether at schools or in social activities,people's enthusiasm of learning English has been constantly promoted and inspired.With people's increasing need of English learning,a large number of extracurricular English training institutions(EETIs)have sprung up in communities.So far,there are more than 100 extracurricular English training institutions in Linfen,the city of Shanxi Province,which aims at elementary and middle school students.This thesis mainly focuses on the investigation and discussion of You Sheng Jiao Yu(YSJY)—an extracurricular English training institution and its other two branches in Linfen City.And this thesis primarily analyzes what strategies it conducted at the YSJY extracurricular English training institution in improving students' English learning abilities.With analysis on the reasons of students learning at YSJY extracurricular English training institution and the in-depth investigation of the teaching methods and teaching effect at YSJY extracurricular English training institution,this thesis mainly focuses on following research questions:(1)In what way does EETI do to improve middle students' academic achievement?(2)In what way does EETI do to help middle students stimulate learning interest?(3)In what way does EETI do to improve middle students' listening and speaking abilities?In order to get the research data,155 students,35 parents and 3 teachers were investigated with the help of questionnaires and interviews.Further analyzing the data from the research,and taking the present situation of YSJY extracurricular English training institution into consideration,this thesis also draws the following conclusion:(1)Middle school students attending EETI can improve their academic achievement;(2)Middle school students' learning interest can be stimulated at EETI;(3)Middle school students' listening and speaking abilities can be improved at EETI.Finally,combined with the current situation of educational development and educational evaluation system,this thesis analyzes the reasons that middle school students learning at YSJY extracurricular English training institution from the perspective of parents,students and YSJY extracurricular English training institution.At the same time,in the light of the analysis of the research results and current social situation,this thesis also discusses the insufficiency of middle school English teaching and tries to put forward some feasible suggestions:(1)Parents and schools should pay more attention to students' learning interest and motivation;(2)Parents' support and their expectations for students' success are important factors in choosing extracurricular training institutions;(3)For both schools and extracurricular training institutions,students should be provided with reasonable and flexible courses.
