Novel is a literary genre which centers on the shaping of characters' images.The characterization is revealed through portrait,language,action,psychology,in which the characters' dialogues among each other are the most basic means to show the personalities of characters.Therefore,dialogue translation is very important.It not only affects the shaping of image and characters,but also plays a crucial role in constructing the novel plot and stimulating readers' interest.So it is of great significance to study the feasible skills of dialogue translation in novel.In this translation practice report,the author chooses the first four chapters of the novel Highland Moon as the translation material,which is written by Judith E.French,a famous American writer.This novel focuses on the Scottish history in the early 18 th century and describes the experiences and feelings of hero and heroine in the process of escaping.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the author makes several case analyses about the dialogue translation in the book,and summarizes four feasible skills for the translation of dialogues in the novel,namely diction,division,adopting modal particles and omitting subjects,so that the translation not only conforms to the expression habits of the target language on the basis of being faithful to the source text,but also has readability while retaining the literariness.
