Field independence(FI)and field dependence(FD)are an important element of cognitive style.Cognitive style refers to a habitual behavior patterns that the individual has shown in the cognitive process.Cognitive style is not related to or unrelated to intelligence(Riding & Pearson,1994;Riding & Agrell,1997),most of which are attitudes and expressions of perception,memory,and problem-solving processes developed since childhood.The independent and dependent cognition of research field play an important role in English teaching in senior high schools students.It is helpful for foreign language teaching in the future.Most of the research on cognitive styles focus on college students and junior middle school Students,but few have studied the cognitive style of high school students' English scores.This paper conducts descriptive statistics and independent sample T-tests on the performance of senior high school students in English for FI and FD,aiming to solve the following questions:1.Are there any gender differences between FI and FD? What kind of students have high English scores,FI or FD?2.Will FI and FD have certain influence on the senior one students' Reading Comprehension,Cloze,Grammar Knowledge focus performance,Essay Error Correction,Written Expression ?The subjects selected in this study are two classes of Ruicheng High School of Yuncheng City,Shanxi Province,which are respectively 569 and 570.They were testified by Embedded Figure Test(EFT),Observation and Interview while collecting their monthly English test papers of two classes to analyze.Then collected data for analyze,the test instrument is SPASS17.0.Draw conclusions as follows:1.The students of different genders actually differ in FI and FD.FI cognitive style students have higher English scores than FD students.2.FI and FD have an impact on the reading comprehension and written expression of senior high school students,but they have little effect on Cloze,the ability to use language knowledge,and the correction of Essay Error.Cognitive style affects human cognitive activities.Ask for teachers should understand students' cognitive styles,fully consider the learner's cognitive differences in instructional design,and effectively guide the teaching practice in accordance with students' aptitude.The design and implementation of teacher's teaching activities should be consistent with the students' cognitive styles.It is the key to achieve quality education and plays an important role in the education and development of young people.Also,it is conducive to embodying student-centered education teaching concepts and achieving comprehensive,balanced development.It is also a new trend in the development of education today.
