The purpose of this paper is to explore the pragmatic function of English Loanwords teaching in Japanese under the theoretical guidance of Language Memetics.It is aimed at the essential questions as whether the Memetic-based approach to loanwords teaching can strengthen the efficiency of the student learning.It is also to explore the feature of Meme theory and to see how the theory serves for the language learning via the “Meme” features as “replication” and “transmission”.In this paper,the writer,from the perspective of Memetic Linguistics,intends to focus on English-loaded words and expressions in Japanese teaching.Through discussing the characteristics of memes and the life cycle of memes,this paper carries out an experiment in the teaching of College Japanese loanwords based on Memetics.Proceeding the theoretical analysis,the concerning theme is explored on the pragmatical use of teaching strategy and the observational results from the first-hand classroom data.By looking into the questions and then seeking out solutions,through the classroom experiment and observation,the author accumulates data in support of the later,and similar,theoretical applications.There are two main problems to be solved in this paper.One is what Memetic phenomena exist in the dissemination of Loanwords ? To further its pragmatic purpose,it is to understand Memetics in the loanwords teaching in Japanese,socially,culturally,semantically as well.The other problem,in accord,is what particular effectiveness of Memetic approach has been found in Japanese loanword learning via the case study and data analysis.The results show that from the perspective of pragmatics,culture and semantics,Memetic phenomena exist in the dissemination of Loanwords.It is concluded that the pragmatic use of Memetic strategies such as the concepts of "original meme","imitative meme" does help students to generate a better learning of foreign languages.A Memetic way of vocabulary teaching can not only bring out a positive change in students' vocabulary learning but also is relatively more effective than thetraditional way of vocabulary teaching.Meanwhile,the Memetic mode of teaching also can be regarded as beneficial that more college Japanese teachers can apply to their vocabulary teaching.
