A Study On English Phonics Teaching In The Primary School

The phonics is a pronunciation rule that uses letters and letter combinations in a word so that children can independently read the new words through these basic rule and child can establish the correspondence between sound and shape.If it is used properly,this method is very helpful for beginners in English.Phonics has been introduced and used by many primary school teachers in the inland and has been actively applied in the primary school.The effectiveness of the method has also been verified in teaching research.This study attempts to apply a variety of teaching resources such as English songs,audio and video,and picture books to the second-grade elementary teaching of elementary school.The aim is to combine these teaching resources with phonic so that enrich the English class in primary school.The author will verify that this teaching attempt whether has a positive impact on children's learning English from three aspects,phonological awareness,vocabulary spelling and reading ability.The study was conducted in an experimental form.Two classes of students in the second grade of Tongxin Primary School in Liangjiang New District of Chongqing Municipality were selected as the research objects.Two classes were randomly selected,one for the experimental class and the other for the control class.There are two methods of phonics for two class respectively.There are two lessons per week,for a period of fifteen weeks,and each class is 40 minutes.The experimental class combines phonics with songs,audio and video,and picture books.The control class conducts general phonics teaching.Both groups are taught by the author.The teaching design is jointly studied by the author and the school's teaching and research team.After the experimental teaching,both classes conduct post-testing of the phonics ability test which including phonological awareness,vocabulary spelling and reading.The research results are as follows.Firstly,from the test results,students who are engaged in phonics under the combination of multiple resources such as songs,audio and video,and picture books are more versatile than the general phonics in the three aspects of phonological awareness,literacy and reading ability.Secondly,test results show that the difference between the two classes in the literacy segment is small.In the vocabulary reading situation,the control class is slightly better than the experimental class,but in the two sections of phonological awareness and reading ability,the experimental class far more than the control class.This paper explores whether the spelling class with the combination of teaching materials such as songs,audio and video and picture books can produce better teaching results.It is hoped that this experimental study will provide a reference for the design of phonics teaching for primary school English teachers.
