In learning English,students generally show strong curiosity and interest with a strong sense of hearing and the ability to mimic,they are willing to speaking and have strongly desire participate in class activities,but at the same time they generally pay less attention to learning English because of their unstable and dispersed mind.Meanwhile,students feel the rote learning boring,especially for higher-grade primary school students.The primary school English teaching materials and vocabularies are more than these of the former curriculum reform.Therefore,the teachers have many difficulties in teaching,for example,students' reading ability is not high and they fail in word pronunciation and spelling.And a significant number of students remember words by rote,which needs much time of devotion but low efficiency of production.If such situation lasts for a long time,it could reduce not only the students' interest in learning English;but also their confidence in learning English.In order to solve this problem,it is conducive to use phonics teaching method,which makes students learn the corresponding relation between letters or letter combinations and then apply the rules to decode,spell and memorize words,so as to improve the accuracy of students' pronunciation and vocabulary learning ability.The subjects of the study are from the fifth-grade of No.4 primary school in Bayan Hot,and they are divided into two groups,that is,the experimental group(30 people)and control group(30).The research lasted for nineteen weeks.The main contents include: basic knowledge of phonics and phonics teaching combining teaching materials.The experiment consists of three parts: the pretest,the vocabulary teaching and the post-test.During the experiment,phonics training which includes spelling and phonological awareness is applied to vocabulary teaching in the experimental group,to improve students‘ phonological awareness and ability to spell words correctly.The data collected after the experiment show: Firstly,students in the experimental class who received phonics training could read and spell words accurately and fluently than the students in the control class.Secondly,questionnaire survey showed that through phonics training,the students in the experimental group are able to master certain spelling skills and have more confidence and interest in English learning.The conclusion of this thesis is to higher-grade primary school students.Phonics teaching is helpful in vocabulary learning and it is also an effective way of vocabulary teaching.Through phonics training,students realize the composition of words and can decode words,improve their accuracy of pronunciation and vocabulary learning ability effectively.With the pace of teaching reform,Phonics teaching plays a great important role in the improvement of English Teaching in primary school;Let the students have the "short time efficient" teaching class and further improve their comprehensive quality of language.
