With writing playing an increasingly important role in junior high school English teaching,English writing has been paid more and more attention by teachers and students.However,there are still some problems need to be solved in English writing in junior high school today.It is a great challenge for English teacher to improve students' writing ability.The production-oriented approach is a teaching theory with Chinese characteristics,which was put forward by Professor Wen Qiufang.This theory not only inherits the fine tradition of education in China,but also draws lessons from foreign language teaching theory.It aims to reverse the negative tendencies in foreign language teaching.Over more than a decade of exploration and practice,the theoretical system and practice path of the production-oriented approach have been basically formed.Based on the production-oriented approach,an action research was conducted with an attempt to explore the following research questions:(1)What are the effects of production-oriented approach on students' English writing ability?(2)What are the effects of production-oriented approach on students' participation in class?(3)What are the effects of production-oriented approach on students' interests in English writing?The subjects in this research were Grade Three students from a class in Hongqiao Junior High School in Shenyang.The researcher carried out two-round ofaction research in this thesis,which lasted for twelve weeks in all.Each round of action research followed the four steps: identifying problems,making the action plan,implementing the action plan,as well as reflection and evaluation.Meanwhile,observation,interviews and tests were used as instruments.In order to better understand the current situation of junior high school students' English writing,the researcher conducted a preliminary survey on English writing teaching in junior high school before the implementation of the plan.The“motivating-enabling-assessing” English writing teaching model was employed in the first round of action research.In the second round of action research,the researcher summarized and reflected on the results of observation,interviews and tests,and then modified the action plan.Finally,observation,interview and test were employed to summarize the results.The results showed that production-oriented approach was an effective theory to improve English writing ability of junior high school students,which embodied in content,language and structure.At the same time,it helped students to construct views,improved students' awareness of participation,so as to enhance students' interests and classroom participation towards English writing.
