Vocabulary is one of the basic elements of language.Vocabulary teaching is an important part of senior high school English teaching,which directly affects the development of students' English learning.However,it is found that there still exist large amounts of problems in English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools.Therefore,it is imperative to improve students' vocabulary application ability by efficient vocabulary teaching so as to enhance students' comprehensive language application ability.Based on present situation and importance of English vocabulary teaching,this research attempts to apply CBI(content-based instruction)to English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools.Furthermore,it attempts to integrate thematic content with language form so as to change the present situation that language form is dominated in traditional vocabulary teaching.The research tries to discuss the following three questions:(1)What is the present situation of English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools?(2)What effects can be obtained to apply CBI to English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools?(3)What implications can be drawn from English vocabulary teaching based on CBI?Guided by comprehensible input hypothesis and constructivism learning theory,a four-month practical teaching is conducted in this research.57 students from Tianshui No.1 senior high school are taken as research subjects.At the beginning of the practical teaching,problems existing in English vocabulary learning can be found through the pre-questionnaire,pre-test and interview 1.In the course of the practical teaching,the enthusiasm of students to participate in classroom activities is stimulated by designing some teaching cases based on CBI elaborately,which enables students to use words in specific topics by designing activities.At the end of the practicalteaching,the post-test,the post-questionnaire and the interview 2 are used to collect the data from students.And then the data collected are compared and analyzed to show the results of the data.The results indicate that the application of CBI to English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools can help students arouse their learning interest and improve application effect of vocabulary learning.At the same time,it is proved that teachers must pay more attention to vocabulary teaching and adhere to student-oriented concept in senior high school English teaching.Teachers should design classroom teaching activities around specific topics to improve their guidance to students' learning ability according to students' interest and needs.Besides,teachers should help students use vocabulary that they have learned in the activities of language production so as to improve the effect of vocabulary learning.
