A Comparative Study Of Urban And Rural Linguistic Landscapes In China

In recent years,linguistic landscape research has become a heated topic in social linguistic filed.However,the related research in China is still in the preliminary stage,and there is still obvious weakness in “emphasis in cities rather than rural areas,emphasis in description rather than explanation”.Therefore,the paper selects Hefei of Anhui Province as research area to select samples in the linguistic landscape in the urban and rural areas.The linguistic expression in the label wording,label content and label form are comparatively studied.After all,the research of linguistic landscape is to study the language and society reflected behind it.The paper takes the 540 valid linguistic label samples from the urban and rural areas of Hefei as research targets.From the aspects of language code orientation,code order,the complexity of the label,the font selection of the label,the function and performance of the official label,the type of private label,the material of the label,and the way of placement,comparison study is conducted for the language landscape of urban and rural areas.Furthermore,the similarities and differences of language landscape reflected in the language power,social identity and social psychology between urban and rural areas in the rapid urbanization process of urbanization are explored.
