In the process of continuous development and progress of the times,the trend of economic globalization has become increasingly obvious.Seeing from the current development of the international community,it can be concluded that the competition is more reflected in the innovative talents.For innovative talents,thinking ability is their essential ability.It is of great practical significance to actively cultivate talents with the ability of critical thinking.The English Curriculum Standard for Senior High Schools in China(2017 edition)clearly states that "Core competence of English discipline is the centralized reflection of the value of discipline education.It is the correct values,necessary character and key abilities that students gradually form through discipline learning.The core competence of English discipline mainly include language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability." The cultivation of critical thinking in English reading teaching plays a key role in the development of students' core competence of English discipline.At present,most of our senior high school English teachers put most of their efforts on language knowledge and skills and often ignore the cultivation of students' ability of critical thinking,resulting in students' lack of interest and poor reading performance.Based on the constructivist learning concept and critical discourse analysis theory,the author incorporates the teaching model of critical reading into English reading teaching in senior high school.The teaching mode of critical reading is developed from four aspects.First,teachers create a classroom environment to encourage students to question and debate.Second,teachers use ways like effective problem-chain design teaching under the theoretical framework of output-driven hypothesis.Third,teachers encourage students to study independently and strengthen the combination of reading and writing.Fourth,teachers reform the evaluation methods and play a formative evaluation effect.Using the experimental method,the author took Class 1,Senior Two,of First Senior Middle School in Lishu County as the experimental object and was taught by English teacher.The author attended the class for two months.The author uses questionnaires and reading tests to explore the influence of teaching mode of critical reading on students' critical ability.After the experiment,the SPSS 17.0 was used to analyze the experimental data collected before and after the experiment.The experimental results show that teaching model of critical reading can improve students' critical thinking ability,which mainly manifests in seeking truth,systematization ability,self-confidence and analytical ability.The author's research provides some enlightenment for senior high school students' English reading teaching,as well as more references for future English reading teaching.
