In recent years,"New curriculum standard" has been based on the cultivation of the core quality of the subject,including language skills,the cultivation of students 'English thinking quality,the cultural awareness and learning ability of English language.Therefore,modern English teaching should conform to the requirements of the development of the times,and it is urgent to highlight the main position of students ' learning.However,since in the long run,the situation of traditional reading teaching mode in our country is that students remain in the position of passive acceptance of knowledge,which are seriously holding back arousing students 'in-depth interest in English learning,resulting in many students' lack of the platform and opportunity to explore independently,lack of active thinking and innovation consciousness.Therefore,the ability to solve practical problems of students,which students are supposed to be equipped with in the corresponding learning period,appears to be particularly insufficient.Then,as a teacher in the first line of English teaching,the author has been thinking about such a question: How to employ scientific and effective methods to carry out meaningful English reading-teaching?This is also a common concern many of our English educators have laid emphasis on.On the basis of English reading teaching research by experts and scholars at home and abroad,this paper tries to explore an effective method for self-inquiry learning of English reading teaching for ordinary high school students,and makes attempts to apply the Self-Inquiry Learning mode to high school English readingteaching.Through the methods of questionnaire surveys,reading tests and comparative analysis of final examination results compared to that of midterm exam results,this paper studies the application of self-inquiry learning in English reading teaching,so as to prove the effectiveness and feasibility of Self-Inquiry Learning mode in high school English reading teaching.Taking as an example the study of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese medicine where the author has been working,this paper selects 80 students from two classes in the sophomore grade as the research subjects,adopts the method of comparative study before and after the experiment,along with the methods of combining quantitative and qualitative,and boldly designs the teaching strategies and methods suitable for the students ' needs of autonomous development,enhancing theirEnglish reading interest and relevant abilities.According to the three months of research experiments,the results indicate that relying on self-inquiry learning can trigger students ' interest in English reading,effectively protect the enthusiasm of English reading,improve students ' overall academic performance and corresponding capabilities in English reading,and eventually contribute to students' making correct adjustments in their learning motivation.This thesis,in a nut shell,consists of six chapters.In the first chapter,an introduction,the paper introduces the research background,research significance and purpose,research problems,research methods and the structure of the thesis as a whole.The second chapter of literature review includes Self-Inquiry Learning,the relevant theoretical basis of Self-Inquiry Learning,the study of English reading,and the combination of Self-Inquiry Learning and English reading teaching.The third chapter is the discussion on the present situation and problem analysis of Self-inquiry reading teaching,which involves the present situation of English Self-Inquiry reading teaching in Senior High school and the causes analysis of the inefficiency of high school students ' Self-reading.The fourth chapter and fifth chapter are about the experimental research on the application of Self-Inquiry Learning in high school English reading teaching,the results and discussions concerned with the study,with regard to experimental design,experimental implementation and experimental data results and analysis.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,including the main findings of this study,the future thinking and prospects and the limitations of the study.
