Zadie Smith's novel White Teeth is an excellent British post-colonial literary work. This work vividly depicts a grand painting of the contemporary social life of British Jamaicans and expresses the hot issue of the third world women immigrants.Through in-depth consideration of this situation, this paper reveals the dual oppressions on the third world women immigrants, namely the racism and patriarchal social oppression left by colonial thought, and the resulting new social dilemmas and loss of identity. In this paper,feminism,post-colonialism,and third-world feminist criticism are the theoretical references. As the extension and development of the first two theories,third-world feminist criticism is the most important theoretical basis of this paper.Through the in-depth interpretation of the various characters in the works, the multiple characters, and the "tooth" image throughout the text, the author analyzes the social dilemmas of the third world women immigrants in White Teeth. These dilemmas include the oppression of patriarchal society, the racism of the white and the conflict of cultural identity. The main content of these dilemmas corresponds to feminism,post-colonialism,and third-world feminist criticism, and the solutions of the three dilemmas are offered by these theories. The three problems have caused the survival dilemma of the third world women immigrants. At the same time, these three problems also make them suffer from aphasia in the mainstream white society.Through depicting the growth process of the novel's protagonist Irie, the book conceives the inevitable way to get out of the predicament and reconfirm their self-identity: multi-culture and hybridity. The book also reflects Zadie Smith's deep reflection and social criticism.
