Under the globalization trend of English usage,the research on English teaching is more and more abundant and diversified.And the learners' individual factor in English learning has become an important topic for psychologists of education.English self-concept and English learning motivation as the core individual factors that affect learners to learn English well,have also been widely concerned.There have been a lot of researches on the structural features of English self-concept,the theory of English learning motivation and their relationship with English performance,however,the academic problems of learners are rarely discussed from the common perspective of English self-concept and English learning motivation,moreover,the study on the English learning psychology of the advanced students in vocational school is very little.Based on the above considerations,the author attempts to explore the correlation between English self-concept,English learning motivation and English academic performance among advanced students in vocational school.This research mainly adopts questionnaire and individual interview method,and a total of 379 advanced students of Grade 1,2 from a vocational school in Pidu district,Chengdu conducted the questionnaire,then,20 students were selected to participate in face-to-face interviews according to their grades and major,lastly,analysed data with SPSS software.Conclusions of this study are as follows:1.The English self-concept and English learning motivation of advanced students in vocational school show significant differences in the gender,grade and major.2.The English self-concept and English learning motivation of advanced students in vocational school are positively correlated with their English academic performance.Among them,grammar and writing self-concept in English self-concept,level of effort,learning value in English learning motivation can positively predict English academic performance.3.There is a significant positive correlation between English self-concept and English learning motivation.4.The English learning motivation plays the partial mediation role between the English self-concept and English academic performance.Based on the researches mentioned above,the author provides four suggestions for English teaching of vocational school in the future:First,focus on cultivating students' positive English self-concept.Next,implement English teaching strategies according to individual differences of students.Then,help students to make correct learning attribution,and stimulate their intrinsic motivation of English learning.Last,improve teachers' comprehensive accomplishment,and establish a good teacher-student relationship.
