The National English Curriculum Standard for General Senior High School(2017)proposes that teachers should constantly stimulate and strengthen students' English learning motivation,and help them to build up their self-confidence in English learning,so as to improve English learning efficiency.It can be seen that English learning motivation and learning efficacy are important factors that affect learners' English level.In addition,the current literature indicates that the domestic scholars have made researches on English learning motivation or learning efficacy from different perspectives,but the present domestic study on the correlation among senior high school students' English learning motivation,learning efficacy and academic performance is insufficient.Therefore,the researcher conducts an empirical study on senior high school students' English learning motivation and learning efficacy,aiming to explore the relationship between English learning motivation and learning efficacy,as well as their impact on English academic performance.With the method of literature analysis,questionnaire investigation and statistical analysis methods,taking senior high school students' English learning motivation scale and senior high school students' English learning efficacy scale as research tools,choosing 220 senior high school students from a middle school in Zhangzhou,Fujian Province.this research aims to explore the following three questions:1.What is the general status of senior high school students' English learning motivation ?2.What is the general status of senior high school students' learning efficacy?3.Is there a correlation among senior high school students' English learning motivation,learning efficacy and academic performance? If there is,what is the correlation among them?Through investigation and data analysis,the result indicates that:1.The mean score of senior high school students' English learning motivation is at a medium middle level(m=3.47).Among them,the motivation of the effort level is the strongest(m=3.76),and the motivation of learning value is the weakest(m=3.22).2.The mean score of senior high school English students' learning efficacy is also at a medium middle level(m=3.43).Among them,the learning efficacy of effort dimension is the highest(m=3.82)and the learning efficacy of competence dimension is the lowest(m=3.14).3.There is significant correlation among senior high school students' English learning motivation,learning efficacy and academic performance.There is significant positive correlation between English learning motivation and academic performance(r=0.589**).There is significant positive correlation between English learning efficacy and academic performance(r=0.692**).There is also significant positive correlation between English learning motivation and learning efficacy(r=0.630**).Furthermore,English learning motivation and learning efficacy have a direct impact on English performance.English learning motivation can predict 34.7% of academic performance,learning efficacy can predict47.9% of academic performance.When English learning motivation and learning efficacy are combined and correlated,51.8% of academic performance can be predicted.Based on the above results,the relevant suggestions are put forward from the perspectives of teachers and students,so as to make teachers and students pay more attention to emotional factors,strengthen students' English learning motivation,enhance their confidence in learning English and finally improve their English level.
