An E-C Translation Report Of EST-Based On Catford's Translation Shifts Theory

Nowadays,with the economic globalization progressing by leaps and bounds,scientific and technological cooperation has become increasingly frequent at home and abroad.Scientific academic literature is the basis of the professional acquisition of scientific knowledge,which is a tool and carrier for spreading knowledge.Hence,translation of EST(English for Science and technology)is becoming a mainstay of international sci-technology communication.It has been recognized that EST has the following features:1)Lexically it requires accuracy and succinctness,and nominalization is frequently used.2)Passive-voiced and complicated sentences are widely used at the syntactic level.Under the guidance of Catford's shifts theory and based on the above features of EST,an analysis of the source text has been conducted from the level shift and category shift.After elaborating on the practicality and feasibility of the theory,the translator has put theory into the translation practice,hence a qualified target text coming into being.In this translation report,reflections have been made by the translator to improve the quality of the target text and some useful suggestions have been put forward to promote theoretical application in the future.
