The Semantic Study Of ABB Adjectives In Contemporary Chinese

Adjectives of the notion of marked traits in modern Chinese often have many forms,such as AA,ABB,BBA,AABB,A-LiAB,etc.Among them,ABB form is one of the most important forms,which does not only have a relatively large number of word-formation,but also has its unique form with rich semantic features.The study of ABB adjectives is of great significance for improving the study of state adjectives and trisyllabic words in modem Chinese.However,the current academic research on ABB adjectives mainly focuses on the grammatical level,while the semantic level is scattered and unsystematic,and many problems are still not fully studied.Therefore,it is necessary to make a systematic and comprehensive semantic study of ABB adjectives.This paper attempts to make a systematic study of the semantics of ABB adjectives,which is divided into four chapters:The first chapter discusses the semantic classification of ABB adjectives,which is divided into two parts:"the classification of the semantic category of ABB adjectives"and"the classification of the semantic eigenvalues of ABB adjectives".In terms of semantic category classification,ABB adjectives are classified into two categories:concrete semantic category and abstract semantic category.Among them,"concrete semantic category"consists of"local concrete semantic category"and,comprehensive concrete semantic category"and summarizes the characteristics of the semantic category of ABB adjectives.In terms of the classification of semantic eigenvalues,this paper makes statistical analysis on the categories of'physical value","human value "and"spatial value" of ABB adjectives according to the ModernChinese Classification Dictionary.The second chapter analyses the semantic structure of ABB adjectives.In view of the correspondence between the semantic structure and the grammatical structure,this paper starts with the analysis of the grammatical properties of A and BB in ABB-type compound words,and then observes the overall grammatical structure of ABB adjectives.As for the semantic composition of ABB adjectives,it mainly includes four aspects:the category of semantic combination of A and BB,the relationship of semantic combination of A and BB,the restriction of choice of combination of A and BB,and the characteristics of the semantic composition of ABB adjectives.The third chapter discusses the four characteristics of ABB adjective semantics:image,delicacy,emotion and fuzziness-In terms of image,this paper expounds the uniqueness of image color and image color of ABB adjectives.ln terms of delicacy,this paper starts from the two aspects of'different BB combinations,same A"and"same BB combinations,different A".By analyzing a considerable number of synonyms or synonyms in ABB adjectives,the delicacy and richness of the semantics of ABB adjectives are illustrated.In term of emotion,this paper discusses two ways and characteristics of the emotional color of ABB adjectives.As for the fuzziness,the fuzziness of the semantics of ABB adjectives and its causes by referring to the relevant theories of fuzzy linguistics are analysed.The fourth chapter studies the semantic field of ABB adjective,including the descriptive semantic field,the synonymy field,and the two-pole field.The fifth chapter is a cognitive analysis of ABB adjectives from the perspective of cognitive linguistics,which mainly includes two aspects:the principle of semantic cognition of ABB adjectives and the phenomenon of synaesthetic metaphor in ABB adjectives.Among them,"Semantic Cognitive Principle"mainly analyses the principles of cognitive proximity,cognitive salience and cognitive activation embodied in the semantics of ABB adjectives.As for the synaesthesia metaphor in ABB adjectives,it is mainly expounded from the two perspectives of'semantic composition "and" meaning extension".
