| Teaching materials play a very important role in teaching.It is the knowledge carrier of the teaching content and teaching methods of high school English courses.English curriculum standards for senior high school(2017)proposes the curriculum objectives of cultivating students’ language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.With the deepening of the English curriculum reform,under the support and influence of the new concept of people-oriented and the development of students-oriented English teaching,it is required to change the thinking,questions and contents of the traditional “reading-based” reading practice.The call for designing developmental reading exercises is getting higher and higher.It is very necessary to study the design of English reading exercises and explore whether the design of English reading exercises can achieve the above goals.This study selects New Standard English for senior middle school published by the Foreign Languages and Teaching Research Press,and uses the reading exercises as the research object.Using the Bloom’s educational goal classification theory and textbook evaluation theory,New Standard English(2006 edition)from book1 to book 5 are analyzed and evaluated.In addition,this study investigates the English teachers of Panzhihua 15 th Middle School through questionnaires,and feedback and evaluation of the exercise reading questions on the textbook are collected.The research questions are as follows:1.How do the reading exercises reflect several cognitive ways of thinking?2.Does the reading exercise achieve the goal of the new curriculum?3.What is the feedback from the textbook users?The research results are as follows: The cognitive thinking level of the reading exercises of the textbook mainly focuses on low-thinking levels such as memory and understanding,and less on advanced thinking levels such as analysis and synthesis.A questionnaire survey of teachers using the textbook found that the English teachers of the school believed that the reading exercises of the new textbook basically met the goals of the new curriculum in terms of language ability and cultural awareness.However,in terms of thinking ability and learning ability,the reading practice of thetextbook is not in line with the curriculum objectives of the new curriculum standard.Based on the above findings,this study puts forward some suggestions on how to use the textbook: pay attention to the thinking design of reading exercises;balance the various levels of thinking according to the actual cognitive level of students;appropriately increase the reading exercises that reflect the objectives of the new curriculum to cultivate the core literacy of English subjects. |
