A Report On Translating EST Texts Under The Guidance Of Catford's Transiation Shifts Theory

At present,the progress of society and science and technology has brought a lot of convenience to people's lives,but it has also caused some serious problems of ecological environment pollution,especially the microplastic pollution.Recently,the microplastic pollution has attracted widespread attention from researchers and people at home and abroad.Researchers abroad have discovered an enzyme that helps to speed up the degradation of plastics,and domestic research in this area is still in its infancy.Therefore,in order to further understand the impact of microplastics on human,biological and ecological environment as well as the researches,it is of great significance to further understand and translate the EST texts.This report is based on the research reports of microplastics selected by the author on the journal Science Online.Firstly,this report introduces the domestic and foreign theoretical guidance related to this translation and the significances of this report,including practical and theoretical significance.Secondly,it analyzes the characteristics of EST texts from the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.It summarizes the translation standards of EST texts and the difficulties in the translation process,including the translation of terminologies and long sentences in EST texts.Then.And it explains the guiding role of the Translation Shifts Theory in this translation practice,and gives examples accordingly.Finally,the translation practice summary mainly discusses the findings,limitations and suggestions of this translation practice.Through this translation practice report,the author analyzes and summarizes the characteristics and translation difficulties of EST texts,and adopts Catford's Translation Shifts Theory to explore the translation skills of EST texts by giving specific examples.The author mainly refers to the translation of terminologies and neologisms,and the division of sentence boundaries in the translation of sentences and sentence groups,and the arrangements of sentences in EST texts.On the one hand,the author hopes to provide some references for translators of EST texts and explore the application of translation theories through the analysis of this translation practice report.On the other hand,the author hopes to provide some valuable references for domestic researchers on ecological problems such as plastic pollution by translating advanced foreign research reports on ecological science and technology.
