Comparative Study Of Black Rain And White Deer Plateau

"Black Rain" and "White Deer Plateau" are the representative works of the era.Though two works were finished in different times,they describe the rural life in detail,which reflects the complex psychology of the peasants.However,because of the differences of aesthetic ideals,life periods of two authors,the two works present different life styles.This paper focuses on the detailed description of the two works and makes a brief analysis of the two authors" unique aesthetic ideas through comparison and by using Parallel Comparison Theory,Folklore Theory,and Narrative Theory.This paper consists four parts:the analysis of characters,the analysis of rural life landscapes,the analysis of cultural village,that is,the rural cultural reflection,and the aesthetic style.The two works focus on the opposition of families.But there are more characters in the novel "White Deer Plateau" and their relationships are more complex,and characters in the novel "Black Rain"have the features of binary opposition.As for the analysis of rural life landscapes,although religions are different,the two works both described the folk customs of countryside.Moreover,the using of the modernism images makes the two works show its on charm.In the part of the rural cultural reflection analysis,this paper makes an analysis on the description of the cultural identity of squires and cultural relics in the two works and makes a list about the similarities and differences.In the last part,this paper is to explore the works from their respective artistic personalities to analyze the overall temperament of the two works.In a word,authors of the two works are both pursuing the reflection of regional culture and are trying to integrate traditional culture into their works.But Chen Zhongshi,the author of "White Deer Plateau" wrote it by standing in the height of history,which makes the work have a deeper meaning and historical sense.And Mo Mei,the author of "Black Rain" narrated from the historical stage of the peasant movement in Hunan Province,which makes the work be full of local characteristics.The similarities and differences between the two works reflect the aesthetic ideals and the value pursuit of the two authors.
