Application And Research Of “Know The White And Abide By The Black”in Chinese Characters Modeling

This thesis analyzes and researches the application of one of the Daoist thoughts “knowing the white and abiding by the black” in Chinese characters modeling.First of all,the author quotes the dialectic relationship between “knowing the white” and “abiding by the black”.Then the author extends and proposes the concept of “artistic appeal” from the spatial angle.Finally,the author illuminates the relationship between “artistic appeal” and Chinese characters,and applies “artistic appeal” into Chinese characters modeling.Instructed by the traditional Daoist thoughts on the universe,the thesis probes into the constitution and application of Chinese characters space,and aims to investigate Chinese characters with “artistic appeal”,so as to realize the aesthetic values of “knowing the white and abiding by the black”.The current theoretical study on “knowing the white and abiding by the black” still lingers on its surface meaning,whereas such philosophy can be applied to Chinese characters in multiple aspects.This thesis attempts to clarify “knowing the white and abiding by the black” and the spatial constitution of Chinese characters from the perspective of space.Through the investigation of implicit ties between “knowing the white and abiding by the black” and Chinese characters on the basis of “artistic appeal”,the author will offer theoretical support and novel significance to the Chinese characters design.
