Lexical teaching plays a very important role in the English teaching.In recent years,multimodal theory has attracted wide attention of scholars at home and abroad.Many scholars make surveys and researches on the relationship of multimodal theory and vocabulary teaching.However,nearly most of them are not based on empirical studies but theory discussions.Therefore,based on previous studies,this research attempts to use multimodal theory to junior middle school English vocabulary teaching.Based on Multimodal theory,combined with Halllidy's system functional linguistics and Krashen's language input hypothesis theory,this paper analyzes teacher how to teach vocabulary by applying multimodal teaching mode and satisfy the lexical teaching needs.Sequentially,teachers explore the multimodal teaching mode in junior high school English vocabulary teaching.This research will focus on the following questions:1.Can multimodal teaching approach improve English vocabulary achievements of junior high school students?2.What is the attitude of junior high school students on multimodal lexical teaching?The researcher took two classes(Class 8 and Class 18)in No.8 Junior High School in Yining city as the research participants.There were 58 students in these two classes.Class 8 was the experimental class and Class 18 was the control class.Both of the two classes used the same textbook.The two classes used the multimodal English vocabuoary teaching approach and the traditional English vocabulary teaching approach to conduct teaching experiments.The researcher compared and analyzed the different effect of teaching and learning between two classes in two vocabulary teaching modes with the help of teaching experiments,pre-test,post-test and questionnaire surveys.And then the researcher used SPSS to carry out statistical analysis on experimental data.Through 12 weeks of teaching experiments,the conclusions of this study are as follows: Multimodal English vocabulary teaching is conducive to expanding the English vocabulary of junior middle school and students are positive about multimodal vocabuoary teaching approaches,in terms of stimulating student interest,focusing the attention of students,improveing students' participation in classroom,helping students understand and rememner vocabulary,the multimodal vocabulary teahing takes large advantage.The conclusion of this study not only makes sense in teaching English vocabulary in Junior Middle school,but also has certain reference value for the English teaching of Junior High School and training of students' English acquisition ability.
