Total Physical Response,TPR in short,which was put forward by the famous America psychologist named James Asher in 1960 s.English vocabulary teaching is the teaching process and the design of teaching activities that take English vocabulary as the teaching content,while take the input and output of target words as the teaching objectives.TPR used in English vocabulary teaching refers to the teacher expressing the English vocabulary through oral instruction and supplemental physical movement,after learners can understand the meaning,they respond with body language.So as to help students understand the classroom teaching vocabulary better and further deepen students' cognition and understanding of English vocabulary.TPR method advocates teaching through entertaining,creating a stress-free and relaxing learning atmosphere to help students raise their interest and build confidence.And TPR method conforms to junior high school students' personalities.Vocabulary is the basis of English learning.Therefore,based on second language acquisition theory,“traces of memory” theory and as well as division of labor between right and left brains theory,this paper tries to study the application of TPR teaching method on English vocabulary teaching in rural high school.The thesis mainly adopt questionnaire and experimentation to study the following two questions:1.Can TPR teaching method improve student' vocabulary achievement in rural junior high school?2.Can TPR teaching method stimulate students' interest in English vocabulary learning in rural junior high school?The participants are in grade eight from Aheqi junior high school,which is located in Aheqi village of Daheyanzi town in Jinghe county.It takes four months to conduct the research at Aheqi junior high school.And there are 40 students from two natural classes which are called the control class(CC)and the experimental class(EC).EC is taught with TPR method;CC is taught with normal teaching method.Before the experiment,the pre-questionnaire and pre-test are used in CC and EC respectively.And then carry out the experiment for fourteen weeks.At the end of experiment,the post-questionnaire and post-test were used in these two classes.After the experiment,the author collects and analyzes the data of experiment according to corresponding research questions in this paper.Compared with the normal vocabulary teaching,the results show that the application of TPR teaching method is more efficient in helping rural students to improve their vocabulary learning achievement.Last but not least,TPR teaching method is more attractive in their vocabulary learning,it also can greatly stimulate rural students' interest in vocabulary learning.
