Vocabulary is the foundation and bridge of English learning.The five parts,such as listening,speaking,reading,writing and translating in English could be presented in vocabulary.So the importance of vocabulary can never be exaggerated.What's more,vocabulary teaching plays an important role in English teaching.However,it is not difficult for us to find that rural English teaching has many problems according to the questionnaires.Especially when facing the vocabulary retention,students often have a very low efficiency because they are so lack of strategy in vocabulary memory.According to the background above,the aim of this paper is looking for vocabulary memory strategies that are fit for rural middle school students by training them the techniques and methods of lexical memory,aiming at improving their interest in learning English.In this paper,the author does a survey on teachers and students in order to know the real situation of English vocabulary teaching in rural junior middle schools.Additionally,the study was conducted on 80 students of a rural junior high school in Fuyu City,Jilin Province,with one class as an experimental group and the other as a controlled group.The author does the vocabulary memory training in the experimental class with four vocabulary memory strategies.The results of the research indicates that most of the students in the experimental class can improve their English vocabulary level.what's more,the application of memory strategies is helpful to develop their strategy awareness in vocabulary learning and to strengthen their memory of the words.Students can improve their vocabulary memory level by choosing proper vocabulary memory strategies.Teachers should focus on teaching students some effective vocabulary memory strategies in the future,and students should also be good at using these strategies to improve English.
