This thesis is an investigation and research on the development of school-based curriculum in English speech appreciation in senior high schools.Since the beginning of English curriculum reform in 2001,more and more attention has been paid to students' comprehensive language competence.The new Senior School English Curriculum Standards issued in 2003 proposed that the English curriculum in senior high schools should be made up of both elective courses and compulsory courses.The latest edition of the new Senior School English Curriculum Standards issued in 2017 proposed to further optimize the curriculum structure.Schools should offer school-based courses according to their own conditions,and students can choose courses by themselves.School-based curriculum has a long history in Western countries,among which English speech courses are particularly extensive.In China,English speech courses are only optional courses in some universities,lacking a systematic teaching system,let alone in high schools.In the city where I teach,there are fourteen high schools,only four of which offer English speech appreciation school-based courses,which are generally arbitrary,inefficient,less systematic and of low quality.The purpose of this study is to solve the following three problems: 1)What is the current situation of the school-based curriculum of English Speech Appreciation in senior high schools? What are the main problems? 2)What is the current teaching mode of English speech appreciation in high school-based curriculum? 3)What is the teaching effect of English Speech Appreciation in high school-based curriculum at present? Therefore,since 2013,the author has been teaching English Speech Appreciation course,and participated in school-based curriculum research.In the second half of 2016,the author conducted a one-semester survey on 14 high schools in the city,including 10 high schools that do not offer school-based courses in English speech appreciation and 4 high schools that offer school-based courses in English speech appreciation.The participants are 100 teachers and 1000 students in high schools that do not offer the course,and 10 teachers and 100 students in high schools that offer the course.The survey is mainly conducted in the form of questionnaires,interviews and class observations.Through the analysis of various data,the present situation and problems of English speech appreciation in high school-based course are understood,as well as the current teaching mode and effect of the course.Through the data analysis of questionnaires and interviews between teachers and students,multi-dimensional classroom observation,combined with relevant theories and literature,this study mainly draws the following findings: 1.The situation of English speech appreciation in high school-based course in our city is not satisfactory,and there are some problems.Due to the limitation of conditions,most high schools do not offer this course.In the four high schools that offer this course,although teachers and students all support the opening of school-based English speech appreciation,the course is more random,inefficient and less systematic,and the quality of the course is not high.Secondly,there are three main teaching modes of English speech appreciation in school-based course: foreign teachers' teaching mode,Chinese traditional teaching mode and reversal teaching mode.Thirdly,the school-based course of English speech appreciation for senior high school students has achieved good teaching results.It not only conveys the concept of English speech to students,but also meets the learning difficulties and students' needs in senior high school.It enlarges students' knowledge,enhances students' English expression ability and improves students' logical thinking ability.However,there are still many shortcomings in the overall goal achievement and effect satisfaction.Through this study,the author draws the following inspirations: Firstly,local Bureau of Education and schools should strengthen the importance of school-based courses,provide necessary training and financial support to ensure the development and implementation of school-based courses.Secondly,teachers should continue to learn and innovate,improve their own quality,and have an international vision and educational concept of international understanding.Thirdly,schools and teachers should actively develop and explore English speech appreciation in high school-based course,further develop curriculum resources and improve curriculum settings.However,due to the limitations of the respondents,insufficient research time and the lack of the author's own ability,there are still many limitations in this study.There is still a long way to go to develop the school-based course of English speech appreciation.More colleagues need to make more efforts.
