A Report On The Translation Of Chapter Three In Conflicting Humanities

This translation material is extracted from Conflicting Humanities,co-edited by Rosi Braidotti and Paul Gilroy.The translation report is written on the basis of Chapter Three.By discussing Spivak’s argument that "Can the subaltern speak?",the chapter describes such issues as the difficulties of the subaltern’s lives in the slum,the lack of the subaltern’s right of speech,and the suppression of their self-consciousness,thus it calls on intellectuals to put aside their differences and unite to reimagine a different future.The translation report is mainly divided into four parts.In terms of the significance of translation project,it is beneficial to Chinese humanities through further study and analysis of Spivak’s thought.For proper nouns and terms in the text,the translator consults relevant documentary materials and authoritative dictionaries,highlights and verifies them in multiple ways.For the translation of complex sentence patterns,the translator adopts the methods of voice conversion and word-order change.For the difficulties encountered in the process of translation,the translator mainly selects some typical translation examples from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax,discourse and punctuation.Through this translation practice,the translator has a deeper understanding of translation,accumulates valuable experience,improves the ability of bilingual conversion and recognizes shortcomings during the process.In the future,the translator will make up for deficiency and constantly enrich myself as well as broaden my horizon,striving to become a qualified translator at an early date.
