The origin of Chinese documentary can be traced back to the Chinese documentary film in 1905.So far,Chinese documentaries have gone through a more than 100 years' history.From the first Chinese TV documentary The Heroes of Xinyang People to Rent Collection Courtyard,with the background of their times,the content of early Chinese documentaries are selected and filmed based on the people and the life of their times.With the development of Chinese society,the creative theme of Chinese documentaries has gradually expanded to the field of political ideology.The content of Chinese documentaries is objective,most of which are spread by the media of television.After the reform and opening up,due to the breakthrough in artistic creation during the Cultural Revolution,the themes of Chinese documentaries have been constantly diversified and gradually expanded to the categories of scenery,humanity and military etc.In 1979,China and Japan co-filmed China's first large-scale TV series Silk Road which opened up the horizon of documentary filming in China.After that,Looking at the Great Wall,Shenzhou Style and Animal World start documentary trends,and the TV documentary column program comes into being.However,for a long time,due to the real recording and narration of reality,Chinese documentaries lack of thoughts and appreciation under the guidance of realism.Chinese documentaries have gradually formed their own style while absorbing the experience of foreign excellent documentary production.But as far as the Chinese documentary itself is concerned,it still develops from the political,economic,cultural and military aspects,and does not escape from the lack of dramatic and plot characteristics of the documentary in content.The narrative style of Chinese documentaries always needs to be improved and injected with new impetus.The creation of documentaries is the restoration of real events,so authenticity is the core of documentaries.But compared with news programs,documentaries are quite different.Documents are more like "fragile goods" with both the cost and production time more or longer than news programs.For a long time,documentaries have been called "Elite Shots for Elite Shows",which is closely related to the artistry of documentaries.In order to make the documentary more "good-looking",some artistic techniques are often added to increase its artistic connotation.From the perspective of documentary production investment,documentaries should be both artistic and commercial.Especially in the trend of continuous integration of the Internet and the media,those documentaries that can only be seen by the "elite" can no longer meet the needs of the audience.In recent years,the creation of Chinese TV documentaries has shown the trend of blowout.Excellent production and far-reaching intention are the goals and characteristics of Chinese documentaries.TV documentaries are both artistic and news-oriented.Unlike TV dramas,documentaries often lack drama in plot setting.Audiences often need a certain level of knowledge and cultural connotation to appreciate documentaries,which leads to the limitation of audience scope of Chinese documentaries.Chinese documentaries have begun to tend to record the lives of ordinary people,showing the story and spirit behind it in a small way.Among historical material,the Forbidden City,as a representative of the Ming and Qing dynasties,has become the theme of many documentaries.The Forbidden City and The Forbidden City 100 all have shown the history of the Forbidden City from a macro perspective,but have ignored the humanistic feelings behind it.The broadcasting of Masters in Forbidden City in 2016 made up for this shortcoming.The documentary has turned the lens to the cultural relics restorers of the Palace Museum,taking their work and life as the starting point,using ordinary characters to show the extraordinary spirit of the great craftsmen.Based on the relevant theories of Journalism and communication,this paper will make a concrete analysis and explanation of the concepts of "Chinese documentary" and "narrative strategy" by means of literature analysis.Then by using content analysis method and case study method,this paper will analyze the narrative style of Masters in Forbidden City,including the following three aspects,prosaic text:open text,pluralistic dictation,cross narration;the civilianization perspective of narration:humanity,colloquialism,universalization;and the combination of specific time and space:discourse time,logical space,time and space crisscross.Through comprehensive consideration and case study,this paper explores the influence and deep significance of the typical narrative mode of the documentary on its creation and dissemination,and tries to provide some reference for the media presentation of documentary content and the development of documentary production in China.
