In senior high school English teaching,for various reasons,English Reading Teaching has become the most important part of teaching work.After the New Curriculum Standard was published,English textbooks have obviously enlarged the parts of reading,but the class hours which is distributed to Reading Teaching is greatly cut short.Therefore,as senior high school English teachers,it is an urgent problem to cultivate and improve students' English reading competence in order to meet the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard.The purpose of this investigation is to investigate whether the problems in English reading teaching in senior high schools meet the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard.Therefore,the author randomly selects 600 students and 15 teachers from three senior high schools with different entrance grades in Shenyang as the subjects of the investigation.Through questionnaires and interviews,the author tries to find out senior high school students' problems in English reading interests,reading skills,learning strategies and language knowledge and senior high school English teachers' problems in reading teaching objectives,teaching subjects,teaching resources and teaching evaluation system.Through the investigation,it is found that most of senior high school English reading classes meet the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard,but there are still some problems.In senior high school English reading learning,the main problems of students are that their reading interests are not high enough,their readingskills are not proficient enough,their learning strategies are too exam-oriented,and their language knowledge is not rich enough.In senior high school English reading teaching,the main problems of English teachers are that multiple teaching objectives are not fully taken into account,the student-centered teaching mode has not been fully achieved,the use of teaching resources is not flexible enough,and the teaching evaluation system is too single.According to the investigation results,the author draws some corresponding teaching inspirations and hopes to provide some valuable suggestions for senior high school English reading teaching.
