This report is divided into four chapters.The first two chapters of The Victorians are translated and analyzed.Chapter one introduces the original text and analyzes the textual features.This book is a social science text that introduces paintings and art history.On the one hand,the language style of this book has the characteristics of social science texts.In other words,the author uses precise and specific words to describe factual information,such as the personal information of the artist and the content of the painting.On the other hand,the book also reflects the unique writing style of the author.When describing the creation background of each painting and expressing views,the author use words which are literary and vivid.Meanwhile,the author deals with the content cohesion and semantic coherence very naturally,and his use of punctuation marks is very flexible,especially dashes.After discussing the texual characteristics,the translator talks about the meaning and purpose of translating this text,introduces the context theory that guides this translation practice,and explains the applicability of context theory to this translation practice by combining textual features.The second chapter describes the whole process of translation practice,including the specific work before,during and after translation.The third chapter is the core part of this report.The translator describes the process of solving specific problems in translation practice through case analysis.According to the theory of context,translators classify the problems in three aspects: linguistic context,situational context and cultural context.Chapter four is a conclusion,which summarizes the translator's reflections and experience after the practice.Context is a key point in text analysis,which restricts the translation process.In this report,the translator mainly analyzes the language in the text according to the context classification of Hu Zhuanglin.While using the context theory to solve individual translation problems,the translator also generalizes the strategies to solve the problems to apply to the same kind of problems.In this process,the translator summarizes the lessons and enriches the experience.In addition,the translator hopes that this translation practice report can increase readers' interest in British Victorian paintings,artists and history,so as to have a deeper understanding of this changing golden era.
