The Writing Of History Of Japanese Literature By Kato Shuichi

Kato Shuichi(1919-2008)is a famous critic,writer and cultural historian in Japan.The Overview of Japanese Literature History can be seen as a comprehensive expression of his thoughts and previous works.The book has organically integrated multiple disciplines within the framework of literature history,dynamically analyzed the history of Japanese literature from a variety of aspects,and explained the law of development of Japanese literature through the complex literary phenomena.This paper was developed around this book of literature history.Chapter one provides the analysis of the time and spatial structure in The Overview of Japanese Literature History on the basis of the temporal and spatial characteristics of Japanese culture described by Kato Shuichi in the book Time and Space in Japanese Culture,and the explanation of the synchronic and diachronic interactions between the texts in the history of literature.Chapter two discussed Kato Shuichi’s imagination of Japan,shaping of the image of China and description of the image of the Western world in The Overview of Japanese Literature History,organized the idea of literary development from the perspective of literary historians,and thereby thought about the construction of literary identity in the writing of literature history.In chapter three,the author analyzed the evolution of the indigenous world view in the context of literature history and explored the application of the theory of hybrid culture in the writing of literature history.
