English is a compulsory course for students in the basic education stage in our country.The English Curriculum Standard for full-time compulsory education is to develop the skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing.That is,the training of language skills is one of the important tasks of English curriculum in the basic education stage.However,writing as the last of the four skills is often ignored by teachers.Many people think that writing is a complex task.And it is usually regarded as a skill that can not be taught because it is the most difficult one.Therefore,the teaching of English writing has always been the focus and difficulty of English teaching in middle schools in China.Writing is an indispensable part of English learning skills for students.It is a way to express the views of authors and disseminate knowledge and information.Therefore,for the majority of junior high school students,it is imperative to improve their writing ability.This study focuses on two research questions: what are the grammatical errors in English writing for junior school students and which grammatical errors make up the largest proportion? What are the reasons for the grammatical errors in English writing for junior school students? This thesis makes a data analysis of 107 English composition texts in two classes,and these compositions are the last test paper of a junior middle school in Shulan City,Jilin Province.Analysis the reasons of errors after that,and than explore the enlightening on English teaching.There are 627 grammatical errors in English compositions for junior high school students,which can be divided into two categories: syntactic errors and morphological errors,the number of syntactic errors is 301,the number of morphological errors is 326,and the percentage of morphological errors is higher than syntactic errors.This research finds that the morphological errors are the outstanding grammatical errors in junior middle school students' English compositions.Although the syntactic errors are relatively fewer than morphological errors,which may be because the students use more simple sentences,the syntactic errors cannot be ignored.The main causes of grammatical errors are the absence of grammatical knowledge,overgeneralization,negative transfer of mother tongue,and so on.According to the result of error analysis,this paper puts forward the relevant strategies to solve the problems existing in practical teaching: Firstly,teachers should emphasize grammar teaching and consolidate the basic grammar knowledge.Secondly,teachers need to choose correct ways to teach and learn grammar.In the teaching process,actively create the teaching situation,and apply the theory of error analysis to the teaching practice of junior middle school English writing.Last but not least,Teachers should treat students' grammatical errors correctly and help students understand why they make such errors and how to avoid these errors in the future.In a word,this study shows the characteristics of middle school students' writing,the classification of errors and the causes of errors.If teachers use proper teaching methods and students get effective training,then their language errors will be corrected gradually and their English language ability will be improved accordingly.
