The Picture of Dorian Gray fully embodies Oscar Wilde's artistic views.However,the translation of this work in China was insufficient and it was always a process of selective acceptance.Some translators tried to put it under the context of realism,while some others tried to read Oscar Wilde's work from a literary and aesthetic perspective.Meanwhile,translators used a variety of translation strategies to meet the demand of.This thesis aims to look at the translation of The Picture of Dorian Gray in China in the 20 th century and clarify the factors of political ideology and poetics that had caused different interpretations in the context of Chinese culture.Through this case study,this research project will focus on the relationship between literature and politics in the development of Chinese literature.The translation of The Picture of Dorian Gray in China reflects the utilitarian of translated literature in Chinese literary system in the 20 th century.It not only reflects the universal characteristics of translation in the 20 th century,but also makes it clear that translations is a part of the Chinese literary system and form a diverse and complex 20 th century Chinese literature.
