In 2017,I have become a volunteer translator of BFSU division of the United Nations Department of Publication and Information(UNDPI),participating in the African Renewal translation project.During this period,I felt honored and humbled to be given four translation and revision missions, two of which were published. This thesis is a translation report which elaborates my translation practice, taking two articles Towards a food-secure Africa and Cape Town water taps running dry as main research targets, and categorizes the problems from the perspectives of word and sentence. It is divided into four chapters.First comes the introduction to this translation project. The second chapter is about the translation process.Specifically, preparation, translation, proofreading and quality control. The third chapter breaks down specific translation examples. From the perspective of word, problems stem from background, terminology and word choices;from the perspective of sentence, problem lie in collocation,Europeanized Chinese and adaptation. The original text refers to words or expressions excerpted from African Renewal, the original translation refers to my first version of translation, the revised translation refers to text proofread by other members and teachers.By comparison,I define problems, identify causes and try to provide solutions. The final chapter concludes the problems and related solutions, discusses about my shortcomings and gains in this project and also puts forward suggestions for the team, looks into the future as a more eligible and comprehensive translator. At the end of this report, for the convenience of future readers,I share two appendixes:a chart to compare between two original texts and my first version of translation;and the standard manual of the project.
